Pretty Little Liars

by Jenn McD. on July 30th, 2010 | WMG
In addition to their new hit, Huge, ABC Family is rolling in with another hit with Pretty Little Liars. The show follows a group of 4 girls with many secrets and the disappearance of their 5th friend, Allison, who knew everything.

Aria- She is the “rebel” of the group. After Allison disappeared, Aria and her family moved to Iceland for a year. Now they’re back, and Aria suddenly feels like an outsider in her hometown. She's reconnecting with her old friends, but only time will tell if their secrets will bond them together or tear them apart

The Office without Michael Scott

by Ronald A. Rowe on July 28th, 2010 | Sitcom, TV News
For those long-term planners out there, it’s time to start fretting about the loss of Steve Carell from The Office. Sure, he’ll be around for one more season, but is it ever too early to start pining for the return of Michael Scott to the hallowed halls of Dunder Mifflin?

A few seasons ago, at the height of the Office’s run as the funniest show on TV, I would have been less worried about it. Jim Halpert was kind of the co-main character at the time. His cool slacker-ness was a counterbalance to Michael’s over-the-top stupidity.

62nd Emmy Primetime Awards Part III

by Jaclyn Abergas on July 26th, 2010 | Comedy, Drama, Reality TV, Specials
The Emmy Awards nominations continued.

Outstanding Reality - Competition Program

Nominees:

American Idol (FOX)
Dancing With The Stars (ABC)
The Amazing Race (CBS)
Project Runway (Lifetime)
Top Chef (Bravo)

Prediction

It's a good set of nominations this year but The Amazing Race has always won this award. They have not shown signs of letting up so it may be hard for the other shows to keep up. My take: it's a toss between The Amazing Race and Project Runway.

Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series

Nominees

The Colbert Report (Comedy Central)
Daily Show With Jon Stewart (Comedy Central)
The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien (NBC)
Saturday Night Live (NBC)
Real Time With Bill Maher (HBO)

Haven

by Ronald A. Rowe on July 23rd, 2010 | Drama, Summer TV
Did you catch the premier of Haven last week? Syfy’s new Friday night drama is showing some real promise at the onset.

The show is slated for 13 episodes and is based on a novella called The Colorado Kid by Stephen King. As such, I expected it to be a mini-series kind of a format. I was surprised to discover by the end of the first show that it is episodic, with a self-contained story each week that falls into a larger, season-long picture. So far, it looks like Haven is going to follow the familiar “Freak of the Week” Read More

The Hills Series Finale

by Jenn McD. on July 21st, 2010 | Drama, Reality TV
Last Tuesday night, we saw a cultural phenomenon come to a close as the 6th and final season of MTV’s The Hills ended. Minus Heidi and Spencer, the entire cast was present at the finale party at The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Making surprise appearances were The City’s Whitney Port and the girl who started it all, Lauren Conrad herself.

I was glad that Whitney and Lauren were able to come back to say goodbye to the show that helped launch their careers. Whitney, who gained her own spin-off show and a clothing line, was very sad to see the Read More
