In the past AMC was not known for airing television series, they were simply a movie channel. Now all that has changed.
There is no doubt as to whether you have heard of the show Mad Men. If you haven’t, then you probably live under a rock. Mad Men is a hit or miss, however; either you like the show or you don’t, but there is no arguing the fact that it is a big hit.
Mad Men is not the only hit series that AMC now broadcasts. A brand new series called Breaking Bad has entered its second season.
Breaking Bad follows Walter White (Bryan Cranston, Malcom in the Middle) who is a chemistry teacher that lives in New Mexico. Walter’s family consists of himself, his wife and his son who has cerebral palsy.
White is given a diagnosis of stage III cancer and is told that he only has about two years left to live. White, stuck in a low paying career and fed up, turns his life around thanks to a newly found sense of fearlessness and decides to find a way to earn lots of money for his family. Soon after, White decides to jump into the dangerous world of drugs, crime and power. White then struggles constantly to remain both a family man and a dangerous drug lord. Breaking Bad follows White’s struggles and transition between normal and not so normal life.
In season 1, White rose to a very high position within the drug world and pulled himself away from being a normal family man. Season 2 will follow his complete transformation into a dangerous drug kingpin.
Vince Gilligan, the show’s creator, has hinted that “something very big happens at the end of episode two.” Surely for those fans already into the show, the anticipation is building within.
For those that have never seen an episode, the show sounds limited in many ways, but is great to watch and does provide entertainment. The story is dark, but the hint of humor and the incredible drama of Walter White pull you in and make sure you keep watching more episodes.
Season 2 of Breaking Bad will premier March 8 on AMC. Those wanting to catch up can hit the local On Demand channel to find Season 1 starting February 9. I highly recommend you at least check out an episode when you get the chance.
