Hot In Cleveland – Sisterhood of the Travelling Spanx
Rules Of Engagement - Last Of The Red Hat
How I Met Your Mother - Subway Wars, Natural History
The Big Bang Theory - The Love Car Displacement, The 21-Second Excitation, The Agreement Dissection
Mike & Molly - Pilot

Art direction refers to the overall visual appearance of the episode, how the art directors will be able to communicate visually the mood, features, messages and what the finished piece will look like on screen.

Casting for Comedy Series

Modern Family
The Big C
Glee
Nurse Jackie
30 Rock

Honestly, I think best casting among these shows goes to Modern Family. They’ve really worked together as a whole. They help each other make their own characters better.

Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series

Two And A Half Men - Hookers, Hookers, Hookers
Rules Of Engagement - Uh Oh It’s Magic
Wizards Of Waverly Place - Dancing With Angels
Pair Of Kings - Return Of The Kings
Retired At 35 - Rocket Man
How I Met Your Mother - Hopeless

Cinematography refers to the technical factors of the show photography. This includes the lighting, camera, composition, exposure and filter. Cinematographers are responsible for the different shots you see on screen.

Directing In A Comedy Series

Modern Family - Halloween
Modern Family - Slow Down Your Neighbors
30 Rock - Live Show
Modern Family - See You Next Fall
How I Met Your Mother - Subway Wars

Modern Family has three nominations in this category and they’re all good episodes. I would pick Halloween though.

Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

Idris Elba, The Big C
Zach Galifianakis, Saturday Night Live
Matt Damon, 30 Rock
Will Arnett, 30 Rock
Nathan Lane, Modern Family
Justin Timberlake, Saturday Night Live

Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

Kristin Chenoweth, Glee
Dot-Marie Jones, Glee
Gwyneth Paltrow, Glee
Cloris Leachman, Raising Hope
Elizabeth Banks, 30 Rock
Tina Fey, Saturday Night Live

Which one would you pick to win the award?

Nominations for the 2011 Emmy Awards have just been announced. Do you agree with the nominations? What do you think?

Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

Laura Linney, The Big C
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation
Melissa McCarthy, Mike and Molly
Martha Plimpton, Raising Hope
Tina Fey, 30 Rock

Tina Fey has always dominated this category. I’d like to think that someone will come in from underneath and steal the win away from her. Maybe Laura Linney will do it . I don’t have high hopes though. I think Tina Fey’s got this in the bag.

Lead Actor In A Comedy Series

Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Steve Carrell, The Office
Johnny Galecki, The Big Bang Theory
Louis C.K., Louie
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

First up, Matt LeBlanc’s nomination: super surprising! I’m not a big fan of the show but it is a different side of LeBlanc’s acting chops. I have a feeling they’re gonna give this award to Steve Carrell because it was his last year in The Office.

Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series

Jane Lynch, Glee
Betty White, Hot In Cleveland
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family

I am torn in this category. Betty White is amazing in Hot In Cleveland, she’s the best thing in the show! But Modern Family is not Modern Family without Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara, especially Vergara. Kristen Wiig is good but the writing on SNL doesn’t match her comedic talent anymore.

Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series

Jon Cryer, Two and Half Men
Chris Colfer, Glee
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
Ed O’Neill, Modern Family
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
Ty Burrell, Modern Family

Okay, this needs to be said. If Jon Cryer or Chris Colfer win this award, it’s such a slap in the face for Modern Family. Okay, that’s over. Who has a shot at winning this award? I think it’s a cross between Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell.

Comedy Series

Glee
Parks and Recreation
The Office
Modern Family
30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory

I think this is a toss-up between 30 Rock and Modern Family. But my money’s on Modern Family.

So what do you think of the nominations? Discuss in the comments below.

Next week: the drama nominations.

I don’t have much comment about the Mini-series/TV Movie awards since I haven’t seen most of the nominees. If you have, share with us your thoughts on who should win the award.

Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made For Television

Nominees

Carlos (Sundance Channel)
The Pacific (HBO)
Pillars of the Earth (STARZ)
Temple Grandin (HBO)
You Don’t Know Jack (HBO)

Best Actress – Mini-series/Motion Picture for Television

Nominees

Hayley Atwell (Pillars of the Earth)
Claire Danes (Temple Grandin)
Judi Dench (Return To Cranford)
Romola Garai (Emma)
Jennifer Love Hewitt (The Client List)

Best Actor – Mini-series/Motion Picture for Television

Nominees

Idris Elba (Luther)
Ian McShane (Pillars of the Earth)
Al Pacino (You Don’t Know Jack)
Dennis Quaid (The Special Relationship)
Edgar Ramirez (Carlos)

Best Supporting Actress – Drama/Comedy/Mini-series/TV Movie

Nominees

Hope Davis (The Special Relationship)
Jane Lynch (Glee)
Kelly McDonald (Boardwalk Empire)
Julia Stiles (Dexter)
Sofia Vergara (Modern Family)

Jane Lynch continues to steal the show on Glee, but I don’t believe she was given good material to work on this season. Julia Stiles had a pivotal role on Dexter, but it wasn’t my most favorite moments in the season. It’s hard to top off the Trinity Killer and I don’t think Stiles managed to deliver this season. Sofia Vergara continues to make me laugh on Modern Family all the time. So if it was up to me, the award will go to Sofia Vergara.

Best Supporting Actor – Drama/Comedy/Mini-series/TV Movie

Nominees

Scott Caan (Hawaii Five-O)
Chris Colfer (Glee)
Chris Noth (The Good Wife)
Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family)
David Straithairn (Temple Grandin)

Chris Colfer delivered some powerful performances this season, but Eric Stonestreet delivers consistently in every episode. I’d have to give him the award.

Tune in on Sunday, January 16 on NBC for the announcement of the winners!

Frosty the Snowman

Making its premiere in 1969, this animated special was one of many directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin, Jr. What’s not to love about a Christmas show that features the voice of Jimmy Durante as the narrator? Just like the Christmas song, Frosty is a magical snowman who comes to life and brings much happiness to a group of local children. What will happen when the evil Professor Hinkle decides to turn up the heat? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town

Another classic from the directing team of Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin, Jr., this film made its television debut in 1970. A kind mailman (voiced by Fred Astaire) explains how Santa Claus came to be. Of course, Santa wasn’t always known as Santa. He was born as Kris (voiced by Mickey Rooney), a baby that was left on the Kringle family doorstep. Growing up, Kris wanted to deliver presents to children, which was the beginning of Santa Claus. Watch this cartoon to see the obstacles Kris needs to overcome to meet his goal.

The Year Without a Santa Claus

Yes, this is yet another classic from the ever productive team of Bass and Rankin. First airing in 1974, this classic tells the story of Santa (again voiced by Mickey Rooney) and a cold. When Santa decides to take a vacation from Christmas, two of his elves decide to find people who believe in Christmas to help save the day. Along their journey, they run into two memorable characters: Heat Miser and Snow Miser. Find this special in your local listings to see what becomes of Christmas and Santa!

Tonight on MTV, comedian Chelsea Handler is hosting the MTV Video Music Awards. The pre-show was kicked off with female MC Nicki Minaj feat Will.I.AM. In true Barbie fashion, Nicki strutted her stuff in a deep plum body suit with her bubble gum pink wig tightened into a perfect bun. She sang a remix of her hit summer single “Your Love” and special guest Will.I.AM added his own verse to the song. Will and Nicki got the crowd going as the white carpet continued to welcome music artists such as Lady Gaga, Akon, Katy Perry, Usher, and Justin Bieber, in addition to the cast of Jersey Shore, Twilight’s Ashley Greene and Emma Stone.

9:00pm –Eminem is making his comeback to the VMA stage with his first single “Not Afraid” off of his album Recovery.

9:03- Rihanna and Eminem perform his second single “Love the way you lie”.

Rihanna had always had risky style, but she goes a little overboard with her ballerina dress, combat boots and fire engine red hair.

9:06 Chelsea makes her entrance with a rendition of “Bad Romance” and a house on her head

Chelsea is taking shots at Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Jersey Shore’s “The Situation”, and Justin Bieber in her opening monologue.

She also mentions that in the 16 years of the VMAs, this is the first time a woman is hosting the VMAs.

9:15 Lady Gaga wins Best Female Video for “Bad Romance”.

The cast of Jackass who is set to release their new movie in 3D presents for Best Rock Video.

9:26 30 seconds to Mars wins Best Rock Video for “Kings and Queens”.

9:28 Justin Bieber makes his VMA Performance debut at the Nokia Theater with his singles “You Smile, I smile”, “Baby”, & “Somebody To Love”

I must say, I am actually getting into Justin’s music. I don’t think I will ever become a “belieber” as his fans are called, but the boy can sing and the beats are pretty solid.

For those who don’t know, Justin Bieber was actually discovered by Usher and has been mentored by the R&B King himself. It definitely shows on stage.

9:38 Ke$ha in her trash bag dress and Trey Songz introduce Usher’s performance of “Got Us Falling in Love”. I like that Usher is consistent with the theme of his album. He is definitely doing his thing out there on the dance floor.

9:40 Usher performs his summer single “OMG”.

Usher is always a great performer, but I think he should have catered his performance to singing more so than dancing.

9:44 Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry present for Best Male Video.

9:45 Eminem wins Best Male Video for “Not Afraid”.

9:53 New to the VMA stage, Florence and the Machine performs!

9:57 Surprise acoustic performance of “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy

10:01 N.E.R.D feat Ciara performing at Nokia Theater

10:03 Chelsea’s assistant Chuy makes an appearance!!

10:03 The cast of Glee present for Best Pop Video

Lady Gaga wins Best Pop Video for “Bad Romance” and premiers her second outfit of the night. I love Lady Gaga’s style! It’s so amazing!

Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson introduce Taylor Swift’s performance

10:07 Taylor Swift performs her new song in wake of last year’s VMA fiasco with Kanye West.

In all honesty, what Kanye did last year was messed up, but I think people need to move on. Taylor is a big girl, and she can hold her own.

The cast of The Social Network is on stage to introduce Drake’s performance

10:22 Drizzy Drake, Mary J. Blige, and Swizz Beats have hit the stage for Drake’s first ever performance on the VMA stage.

So far this performance has been my favorite!

Lady Gaga, Muse, Florence and the Machine, and Jay-Z have all taken home the professional awards for their videos. Catagories include choreography, video direction, and cinematography.

Cast of Jersey Shore and Chelsea Handler are going head to head, and they finally convinced her to get in the hot tub with them…

10:35 Eminem wins Best Hip Hop Video for “Not Afraid”.

Selena Gomez and Ne-Yo introduce B.o.b, Bruno Mars, and Paramore for a huge collaborative performance

10:42 Bruno Mars serenading with the intro to “Beautiful Girls”

I must say B.o.b was wise in his collaborations this year.

10:43 Haley Williams from Paramore joins B.o.b on stage for their performance of “Airplanes”.

10:45 Paramore performs their summer hit “The Only Exception”.

10:53 Justin Beiber wins the award for Best New Artist.

Lady Gaga debuts her 3rd outfit of the night. It’s similar to her Alexander McQueen outfit from last year.

10:55 Linkin Park performs their new single “The Catalyst” at the Nokia Theater.

I must say, Mike Shinota from Linkin Park is lookin old…

This is the first time I’ve heard “Catalyst” from beginning to end…I feel like it still has what makes Linkin Park, Linkin Park, but it’s also a new direction for them. I really like it!

I must say that I think Linkin Park’s performance has become my favorite of the night over Drake’s…

That may change though! Kanye’s performance in 4 minutes!

HUGE SURPRISE! Cher to introduce Video of the Year!!

11:06 Lady Gaga wins the highest award of the night, Video of the Year for “Bad Romance”.

The most anticipated performance of the night! Kanye debuts a new track in a very dapper looking bright red suit!

Kanye didn’t fail to disappoint. His track “Runaway” had everybody in the room, as well as watching at home, in awe. Even though the man can be obnoxious as I don’t know what, he is one of the best in the game.

Overall, the 2010 Video Music Awards were amazing. I must say that the performances are what made the show. The decision to have Kanye close the show was spot on. Lady Gaga was definitely the winner of the night. She was nominated for 13 awards, and I think she won at least 8 of them. Chelsea Handler did what she does best, which is put on a smile and says what’s on her mind.

Nominees

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
Chris Colfer, Glee
Jon Cryer, Two And A Half Men
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother

Prediction
I seriously want Neil Patrick Harris to win it this time. He deserves it. After five seasons of HIMYM, he still makes it so much fun to watch.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

Nominees

John Slattery, Mad Men
Martin Short, Damages
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
Terry O’Quinn, Lost
Andre Braugher, Men Of A Certain Age
Michael Emerson, Lost

Prediction

Martin Short is unlike any of his previous characters before. Just for that, I want him to win this award.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie

Nominees

Michael Gambon, Emma
Patrick Stewart, Hamlet
Jonathan Pryce, Return To Crawford
John Goodman, You Don’t Know Jack
David Straithairn, Temple Grandin

Prediction

Seeing as I have not watched any of these movies, I cannot make any bold prediction. I leave that up to you.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series

Nominees

Jane Lynch, Glee
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Holland Taylor, Two And A Half Men

Prediction

Not a big Glee fan, but hands down, it’s gotta be Jane Lynch. I tune in exclusively for her and if it were not for her and the musical performances, I do not think Glee will be as successful as it is now.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

Nominees
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
Rose Byrne, Damages
Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife
Sharon Gless, Burn Notice
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Christine Baranski, The Good Wife

Prediction

Rose Byrne gets better and better with every project. So I say her.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or Movie

Nominees

Julia Ormond, Temple Grandin
Susan Sarandon, You Don’t Know Jack
Catherine O’Hara, Temple Grandin
Kathy Bates, Alice
Brenda Vaccaro, You Don’t Know Jack

Prediction

Like with the Supporting Actor nominees, I leave it up to you to make a prediction.

So what do you guys think? Who will win? Tune in on August 29 for the award ceremony.
