Showtime has hit the spot with a dark and amusing comedy called Californication, it contains plenty of modern and “sexual” humor, just about as much as the ‘fornication’ part of the name infers. HBO, apparently hoping to hit a similar audience, has signed a brand new series along the same dark comedy lines called Hung.

Thomas JaneThe show is set to star Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist) who uses a “gift” to make his life much better for himself. Just as the name implies, his gift originates from his natural well-endowment.

Of course, because of the targeted show content it will feature sex as a big portion, but the show’s writer Dmitry Lipkin claims it won’t be the only part. “It has its sexual moments, but the show is very much about what’s happening in the country, how people are trying to survive using what God had given them.”

Thomas Jane will more specifically play a high school basketball coach in the state of Michigan who is stuck in a dead end life. In an attempt to make everything better, he rightfully uses his “gift” to help achieve what he wants and ultimately, happiness.

Along with Jane, the cast will include Jane Adams (Little Children), Charlie Saxton and Sianoa Smit-McPhee. The show is written by Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson (The Riches) and directed by Alexander Payne (Election, Sideways).

If anything, this show will certainly be another interesting “flop” (if you get the pun) along the same comedic lines.

The show will premier sometime next summer and currently is listed in production for a total of 10 half-hour episodes.
