This past Thursday on Bravo, the 3rd season of the Real Housewives of New York City ended with the annual reunion show special. Much to the viewer’s surprise, due to the overwhelming amount of drama this season, the reunion was split into 3 parts. I personally asked myself, “is there really a need for a 3-part reunion special?” I will admit that there was a drastic amount of catfights, gossip, and drama throughout the season, but I personally wouldn’t say there was enough to warrant a 3-part special.
Moving on, the first part that aired last Thursday was to be pretty much expected. The main subject of conversation was the falling out that happened between housewives Jill Zarin and Bethenney Frankel. For those who haven’t seen the past 2 seasons, these two women were the best of friends and had a relationship that to the viewers was the friendship that everyone would hope to experience in their life. Before shooting season 3 last summer, Bethenny had a book on the Best-Seller list for a significant amount of weeks, “skinny girl margaritas” her line of alcoholic drinks selling through the roof, and she met her current husband Jason. Through all her success, Jill felt that she was being snubbed and dealing with her husband’s struggle through cancer, she took her anger out on Bethenny, who somewhat instigated the fight with a sort of brutally honest voicemail left on Jill’s phone.
Throughout the season we saw Jill continually lash out against Bethenny. In Bethenny’s eyes, the fight wasn’t anything serious, but Jill held a grudge and continually rejected Bethenny’s attempt to reconcile the relationship. After 3 attempts, Bethenny decided to move on and live life with her fiancé and a baby on the way. With the other housewives inserting their opinions and “choosing sides”, lines were drawn and Jill saw she wasn’t where she wanted to be. In the season finale, Jill reached out to Bethenny in hopes to rebuild the friendship. Bethenny politely said “no” without actually saying no. At the reunion, Jill’s desperate attempt to remain friendly with Bethenny in hopes to make peace. Bethenny was brutally honest with Jill and let her know that her husband didn’t really care for her and that she didn’t really know where to put Jill in her life any more since the split between them was essentially a divorce.
Surprisingly, as the reunion’s host, Andy Cohen, continued to bombard Jill with questions about her behavior towards Bethenny, Bethenny actually came to her defense and asked if they could stop. According to both housewives, they are tired of talking about the past and would like to both move on with their lives.
Tune in Monday, June 14, 2010 at 9pm on Bravo to see part 2 of the reunion special!
