Steven Seagal is a man that has pushed out more action movies than any of the big name stars out there, though mind you not all of his flicks have been entertaining. The man definitely has a cult following, as fans that love him are sure to catch every Seagal flick released. Some extremely shocking news is that Seagal’s movies have grossed a worldwide total of over 2 billion dollars. Something even more shocking than that tidbit of information above is that Steven Seagal has spent time doing real police work behind the scenes for over 20 years.
Not only does Seagal play a hero on screen, but he is in fact a true life hero that works to clean up and protect the streets in Louisiana. Seagal works as an active officer for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff station in Louisiana as a fully-commissioned deputy. Seagal is a 7th degree black belt in Aikido and an expert marksman. He spends his time training associate officers in hand to hand combat and firearms.
Apparently A&E has found this information very interesting and deemed it worthy enough to spawn a reality TV series. Along with the ranks of “Intervention,” “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” and “Paranormal State” the new show “Steven Seagal: Lawman” will air regularly. The show is planned to display Seagal’s relationship and participation in the local law enforcement.
Steven Seagal comments on the new show; “I’ve been working as an officer in Jefferson Parish for two decades under most people’s radar, and I’ve decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it’s important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana — to see the passion and commitment that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in this post-Katrina environment.”
The show is also set to portray Seagal’s normal life in the Big Easy, including his extracurricular musical and humanitarian activities. It will air sometime in late 2009.
Seagal is not the only early 90’s action star being revived, however. Another small blurb mentions Patrick Swayze in a new FBI drama titled “The Beast,” which will be released sometime in January.
