Person of Interest. This new CBS program takes elements of many past successful dramas including Grey’s Anatomy and Bones, and also takes the premise for a new spin. From producer J.J. Abrams, this revolves around the story of a billionaire software developer who has created a program that can identify people who are about to be involved in violent crimes. This character is partnered with a former CIA agent who recently faked his own death. The dynamic between the two, along with the engaging story lines, deserves a place at the top of the list.

Once Upon a Time. Although the theme of fairy tale characters entering 21st-century society may seem tired, ABC has managed to weave a fairy tale like no other network before. In one world, Snow White is seen battling her evil stepmother, while in our world, the characters are living in society without any memory of their previous fanciful life. This show is definitely worth watching, and as one reviewer writes, “the timing of the show conveniently leads into the final season of Desperate Housewives.”

American Horror Story. Although not shown on any of the standard television networks, FX’s American Horror Story is causing quite the stir among viewers young and old. The story is a very basic concept. A family relocates into a new house in Los Angeles as an attempt at reconciling. Little do they know, their new home is haunted by some of the most ingenious and downright terrifying entities ever shown on television. Coming from the mind of Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, this show is edgy, contemporary, and well thought out. When these ingredients are all present, there is the perfect recipe for a great show.

Revenge. This ABC drama is sure to attract viewers from the imminently defunct Desperate Housewives series, as well as from Law & Order: SVU. This sultry and scandalous drama focuses on the main character’s mission to get agonizingly painful revenge on all of the people responsible for setting up her innocent father with a crime that led him to be sentenced to prison for the rest of his life. Full of adultery, betrayal, murder, and sweet revenge, the show has the potential to entrance you after one episode.

Ringer. Sarah Michelle Gellar is back to television in the CW drama Ringer. She chose a great show to come back to television with. The main character, Bridget, meets up with her twin sister during the first episode, as she is on the run from the mob and protective custody. After her twin commits suicide, Bridget takes on her identity. This show is sure to grab your attention.

I’ll be the first to admit that Grey’s might not be the best quality show on television, but it is entertaining in a mindless sort of way – definitely not the headache-inducer that Lost was. I’ll also admit that some of the story lines have been ridiculous, but I think season seven has really redeemed the show.

For starters, Izzie (played by Katherine Heigl) is gone for good (I hope). I actually don’t mind Heigl as an actress, but as a character Izzie drove me nuts. I think it was the sex-with-the-ghost-of-her-dead-fiance thing that finally did me in. Either way, I was thrilled to see her leave.

The addition of the Mercy West-ers (written in as a merger with another hospital) was tough to get used to at first. There were too many new characters too soon. Season six’s violent finale thinned the cast a little, so now we just have April (Sarah Drew) and Avery (the unbelievably attractive Jesse Williams – I’m just sayin’). I’ve always been a fan of Avery (for more than the above mentioned reasons, I promise!), but April was plain annoying. Lately, though, she’s been growing on me. She’s been pretty spunky lately, and I like that.

The original characters have shown growth, too. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is doing well now that her and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) have settled down. She’s not as whiny, and by Grey’s standards pretty emotionally stable. Cristina (Sandra Oh) isn’t the robotic emotionless surgeon she started out as. We’re seeing some complexity in her character, and while I do miss the no-nonsense kick-ass Cristina, it’s nice to see her human side.

If you gave up on Grey’s when it was at a low point, I really can’t say I blame you – it was pretty awful. But if you’re ready to give it another chance, now is the time. Catch it on ABC Thursdays at 9!

NCIS (CBS)

A surprise ending is included in the premiere episode, which begins in Gibbs’ father’s store. Ziva’s father will also be making an appearance in a two-parter episode in November. And even Tony Dinozzo will have a visit from his father (played by Robert Wagner) in season 8.

Glee (FOX)

Filipino teen star Charice Pempengco will be joining the cast in a recurring role as an exchange student battling it out with Rachel Berry. There will also be a Christmas episode where Ryan Murphy hopes Susan Boyle will be a guest star. Santana and Quinn will battle it out for the school’s Queen Bee and Carol Burnett will guest star as Sue Sylvester’s mom.

September 22

Criminal Minds (CBS)

The new season of Criminal Minds will continue to explore Tim Curry’s character as a serial killer and how his past shaped his dark life.

September 23

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)

Season 7 premiere’s title has been released and it will be “With You, I’m Born Again”. Derek Shepard will try to deal and move on from the shooting tragedy and will step down as Chief. A new therapist (played by James Tupper) will be stepping in and helping out the people in Seattle Grace-Mercy West deal with the tragedy, including a doctor in a more intimate level. And couples Owen and Cristina and Callie and Arizona may be ready to take their relationships to the next level.

Private Practice (ABC)

Expect a crossover between Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy again this season, according to Shonda Rimes. And a “last-minute” wedding will take place in the first episode!

Bones (FOX)

Booth and Brennan will be taking a trip to investigate a case in Jersey Shore and will make Brennan reevaluate her life. Booth will also have a new girlfriend named Hannah.

September has started and TV premieres are just around the corner!

Admittedly, I was wary of Season 6 since they had just killed George off. What could they do to make this show worthwhile? And the fact that Izzie was still there annoys me so much.

It was a confusing season, filled with both the worst and the best episodes. I have to admit now, the introduction of Dr. Webber’s return to alcoholism and the merger with Mercy West was a good and needed step in the right direction for the show. It gave the show new problems, new depths and new blood to investigate.

I like the introduction of Teddy Altman as the new cardiothoracic attending, as Owen’s “gift” to Cristina. It added a new depth to Cristina– she’s finally growing up. The fact that Owen used to like Teddy and vice versa was troublesome for Cristina, but she wasn’t willing to give up both because she recognize they represent different sides of her, the personal and professional one.

I must admit, I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a story line between Meredith and Derek besides the pleasantness of their lives and Chief Webber. All that changed at the end though.

Out of all the Mercy West residents, I like Jackson Avery. He’s held his own and there’s just so much that can be used about him. I just wish there was more time and opportunity to get to know the other residents.

***WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!***

This now leads me to the Season 6 finale. I think this was their strongest episode in Season 6 and the strongest finale since Season 1. It led to people making the right choices for them and growing just a little bit more.

I liked the romance between Callie and Arizona and I’m glad they decided to get back together. But I’m worried the magic might fade again soon for them, after adjusting to the shock and trauma. Owen choosing Cristina was pretty good. I didn’t think they had chemistry before, but they do grow on you. Speaking of Cristina though, nice play on her playing the surgeon. All those times working with Burke and Teddy has paid off and she can hold herself up. And operating and not killing the Chief, not bad.

I wonder what’ll happen to Mark, Lexie and Alex. Now that it’s been revealed Alex is still hung up on Izzie, what will their future be? Or will Lexie go back to Mark? Looking forward definitely to Season 7 in September.

First things first, George O’Malley. I love the fact that everybody just stopped and tried to make sense of his death. And they should because that’s how much of an impact he made on everyone at Seattle Grace Hospital. I guess, because he’s my favorite character, I was a little disappointed that they didn’t give him more of a tribute. But that’s just me.

Next, Izzie. Izzie was less annoying. I’m sorry to all the Izzie lovers out there. I used to like (not love) Izzie, but ever since Denny died, she has been completely annoying and a know-it-all. But in this episode, she wasn’t. As much. So that’s a good thing. I am glad that she didn’t play a cancer victim, all negative and annoying. And that they created a tough character in Izzie with cancer. So, maybe she’ll be more interesting to watch now.

Dr. Miranda Bailey. I understand why they suddenly turned her into this cold, uncaring surgeon. I’m worried they might not be able to sustain that demeanor and eventually turn her back into a strict but caring attending. And that’s fine by me.

Meredith and Derek. There wasn’t a big storyline on them and their love story, which was good because it does mean they’re both growing up and maturing within the relationship. Favorite parts: Alex and Izzie walking in on them at the house, on their honeymoon, by the staircase, and, when Meredith broke down in the locker room and grieved for George, right before Derek walked in. I’m hoping they finally make their wedding official and get married at City Hall.

Mark Sloan. Mark was really cute when he was hinting at Lexie that she should think about putting some stuff in his apartment. Perhaps he can get her a drawer. A grown man, acting like a teenager but forcing himself not to act like a teenager. That was cute.

There aren’t a lot of good shows that have started yet. Gossip Girl has started and is always something I look forward to every week. It’s not what I would have liked, as expected, but it started that way last season also. Hopefully, it will pick up by the fourth or fifth episode.

Beverly Hills 90210 was a big disappointment. I think some people watched it regularly, but I found it shallow and boring. The issues were very predictable and boring. I felt no sympathy for the characters and found myself surprised when I realized it was a two-hour premiere. An hour tested my patience, two hours was unbearable. I was looking forward to the scenes with Kelly Taylor in it, but there weren’t very many. I thought the scene where Brenda Walsh first appears would be quite exciting, but it was so anti-climactic. It wasn’t a good experience. I probably won’t be watching it again soon.

Next week, new seasons for Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes and Ugly Betty are starting, and I’m real excited about that. Will Derek and Meredith finally get together forever? Will Dr. Hahn finally recognize Cristina’s abilities? Will George finally get what he deserves? Will Dr. Bailey reconcile with her husband? What will happen to all the heroes? Will Peter come back to the present from the future? Will Hiro stop Adam? Will Betty be able to choose between Henry and Gio? And next month, new season episodes for Samantha Who, Pushing Daisies and The Starter Wife will be premiering also.

What shows are you looking forward to watching?

Gossip Girl

OMG! What will happen to Blair and Chuck? Will they still get together? Personally, as much as I want them to be a couple, because they look so good together, I don’t think I’d want that. Not yet. If they got together, what will happen to them? Will they change? Will they suddenly become one of those lovesick couples who constantly spend time making eyes at each other? I don’t know about you, but one thing I love about the show is Chuck Bass’ flirtatious ways and Blair Waldorf’s sneaky ways, and I am not ready not to see that on the show.

Heroes

At this year’s ComicCon, Tim Kring and the whole team behind Heroes unveiled the first episode of the third season, which was reported to be amazing. The second season was too short and too full and really set itself up for a forgettable season. Yahoo! TV reports that it’s more focused and doesn’t introduce a billion new heroes.

Grey’s Anatomy

This is my guilty pleasure. It started off great but slowly developed into an underdeveloped soap opera. But I still want to know what’ll happen to Derek and Meredith and if they’re finally going to end up together.

CSI

Now that William Petersen is leaving the show as CSI Supervisor Gil Grissom (but staying on as Executive Producer), I wonder what will happen to the show. There are still the other characters, but I mostly watched the show because of Grissom. I wonder which actor they’ll get and character they’ll develop to add to the show.

Ugly Betty

Did Betty pick Gio or Henry? Did she pick anyone at all? Did she go to Italy? Or did she go somewhere else? What will happen to Daniel? Will he go back to Meade Publications?

I can’t wait for the new Fall TV season!
