The Networks: What To Look Forward To
What do we have to look forward to this fall in the different TV networks?
ABC
Look forward to a lot of dramas from ABC this fall. No Ordinary Family, a superhero show, starring Michael Chiklis goes against FOX's Glee on Tuesdays. Crime dramedy Detroit 1-8-7 goes head-to-head-to-head with CSI: Miami (CBS) and Parenthood (NBC). The Whole Truth with Rob Morrow battles with CSI: NY (CBS) on Wednesdays. Flashforward has been cancelled and will be replaced with docu-style dramedy My Generation.
The Friday night schedule killed Ugly Betty. Let's hope it won't be the same for Dana Delaney and Body Proof on...
Saturday Night Live
Recently, my family has taken up the practice of watching Saturday Night Live as a family. It is a hilarious show that is always fun and an all-time classic. The show is popular with all and has an excellent cast and writers.
Saturday Night Live has an interesting history, going back to the 1970s. During the early 1970s, NBC ran The Best of CarsonThe Tonight Show reruns of that aired on Saturday or Sunday night from 1965 until 1975 (originally known as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson). In 1974, Johnny Carson wanted the weekend shows to be pulled...
March Comedies
Two brand-new sitcoms premiered on local US primetime television this March on FOX and NBC: Sons of Tucson and Parenthood.
Sons of Tucson
Sons of Tucson is a hilarious family comedy about three pre-teen brothers who hire Ron (played by Tyler Labine), a local slacker working at a sporting goods store, to fill in as their dad when their real dad goes to prison. Gary, Brandon and Robby Gunderson are the three brothers who concoct this plan. Gary, 11, is the leader of the pack and most likely will follow in the footsteps of his con-man father. Robby, 13, is the...
NBC and Thursday Night
What is it about Thursday night, NBC, and comedy that go so well together? The Peacock Network has had a strangle hold on Thursday nights since I can remember.
Back in the '80s, it was the Cosby Show. I think that was when it all started, but it may go back even farther. Then came Cheers. When I was in college, Thursday night frolicking could not begin until 9:30 because we were all watching our good friends at Cheers until then.
It seems like it always has been that way. As one show wanes, the next comes along to pick...
New Upcoming Shows
TV executives are preparing for the summer and fall TV seasons and signing new TV shows. Here's a list of upcoming shows to watch for.
ABC
From the same creator of Friends comes a comedy about sisters. Scoundrels, from Shana Goldberg-Meehan, is about two sisters in different kinds of romantic relationships. Jennifer Finnigan plays the sister in a long-term but unmarried relationship and Joanna Garcia plays the other sister, who gets pregnant and marries the baby-daddy.
CBS
An untitled Criminal Minds spinoff is set to be introduced during an episode of Criminal Minds this spring. Starring Michael Kelly and Forest Whitaker, the series...
