Ultimate RV Getaways started at the end of July on the Travel Channel. It features a one-hour look at destinations across the United States, where people who gather in RV’s, whether at a camping resort or sporting event, come together. The way that they live away from home is very fascinating. You’ll get a glimpse into how the old days of camping in a tent, or even a camper, have evolved into a lifestyle that is sometimes beyond belief.

In the first episode, the team traveled to Atlanta to attend the NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway to tailgate with race fans. Here they find how expensive it can be to RV at the races when they realize that the track side terrace camping area costs a whopping $3500! They make some friends at the track of course, and they are some colorful characters. From the excitement of the race, to the food, and of course, to the camping, it proves to be a fun time.

After the first episode, they move on to some more unusual RV camping adventures. They attend the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, the Music City Festival in Nashville, the Dallas State Fair, and the Wellfleet Oyster Fest in Massachusetts.

A truly fascinating aspect of the show is the contraptions people have made from RV’s. You’ll get an opportunity to see an RV that turns into a yacht. Yes, you read that right! They refer to it as a “Boaterhome”. Then at the extreme opposite there is the pop-up that was redesigned for off-road camping.

I have to say that the best part of the show involves the people they meet along the way. There are some real characters out there in the RV world, but there is also a true sense of family and community. This is a fun show when you are in the mood for something that is light, funny, and different. Ultimate RV Getaways airs on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
