Vh1′s Couples Therapy

When you think of reality television, many different types of reality shows might be brought to mind. However, VH1 has a reality show that no other network has come up with yet. This would be Couples Therapy. This network has been known for their series Rehab, where celebrities’ — and regular peoples’ — journeys on their way to recovery have been documented. Now, they have another show that continues with the therapeutic theme in Couples Therapy.

On the show, a group of celebrities and their spouses are brought to a house in the San Fernando Valley in order to get the therapy they need to work their marriages out. They have a full-time therapist known on the show as Dr. Jenn Berman. The first couple  is actor Doug Hutchison and his wife Courtney. Their marriage is well known because they married in 2011 when Courtney was only 16 years of age, whereas Doug was 50 at the time. The next featured couple is Shayne Lamas and Nik Richie. She is best known for being the daughter of famous soap actor Lorenzo Lamas, and she won season 12 of The Bachelor. Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen are the next celebrity couple. They first appeared in the spotlight when they were both cast on The Real Housewives of New York City. R & B singer JoJo and his wife Tashaunda Hailey are another couple that appears on the show. The last couple that can be seen on Couples Therapy is Too Short along with his longtime love Monica Payne. Too Short is a well known rapper within the music industry. When the season began they were still broken up and came on the show to see if they could work out their issues to make their relationship work again.

Couples Therapy is full of drama, drama, and more drama. Besides trying to work on their own relationships and dealing with the difficulty that brings, they are also struggling to get past Courtney and Doug’s relationship. Courtney constantly instigates fights within the house because of the stripper type clothing she wears and her unwillingness to participate in group therapy sessions. In the middle of the season, Dr. Jen kicks Doug and Courtney out of the house because she is sick of constantly reprimanding Courtney for her actions. Although this is the biggest drama starter in the house, the couples often struggle to keep the peace between themselves too. It is not out of the ordinary to catch them fighting with each other and suffering from many disagreements.

Overall, Vh1 has covered new reality territory by bringing celebrities’ issues with their marriages to light. Couples Therapy provides a raw and real look inside of people’s real life relationships. Things can be learned from what happens on the show and in their therapy sessions. Be sure to check out Couples Therapy on Vh1!
